Current Status: (3/15/2026) Needs serious repair. Not keeping position correctly Suspect X/Y rods have bent again. Retired to pallet rack storage while its future is debated - maybe do something like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/1kaxclb/adventures_of_gutting_and_converting_a_wanhao/
Specifications:
- Build Volume: 200x200x175mm
- Materials: ABS (part cooling fan is largely ineffective, so PLA & PETG print poorly. ABS worked really well). If we revive it, may try the nylon & PC we have around?
Donated in May 2019.
This is Monoprice's rebranded Wanhao Duplicator 6. Has the add on sides/top/doors, so ABS printing is a possibility, as well as other “exotic” filaments.
Upgrades/Modifications since receipt:
- Replaced hotend/nozzle with a Micro Swiss
- Printed a retaining clip for the extruder
- Replaced X/Y rods that had become bent and were causing problems
- Made a silicone hotend sock to prevent inadvertent cool down events that cancel the print in progress.
As of June 2021, we are now using this as our dedicated ABS printer, due to its enclosed nature. It is also attached via USB to our Octoprint Server, so GCODE uploading can be done via that.
Upgrades/Modifications needed:
- Buildtak or tape on the build surface might be nice. There's a ground-in Benchy outline on the current Buildtak-like surface (it was like that when we got it!)
