This is an old revision of the document!
Aka, “Son of Junior”
The intention is to build a CNC router capable of manufacturing a guitar body.
Effective table area of approximately 24“x48”, though 48“x48” is under consideration (leaning more towards this, really). Z-axis travel of at least 6“?
Current Status: Still largely in planning, but we're playing with some design options based around things we already have or can make/acquire easily.
X-axis: Current thought is to use the “Sears Axis”, or possibly cut-down supported rails. or the supported rails with no cutdown (48×48 version)
Y-axis: Current thought is to use the 1/2” supported rails, along with cast blocks. Not sure of the drive mechanism yet.
Z-axis: possibly using a leadscrew from the optical mechanism we acquired with the “Sears Axis”, and some of the linear rails on hand.
Spindle: TBA
Frame: Welded square steel tubing?
Electronics:
- Motors:
- Motor Drivers:
- CNC electronics (grbl, BBB, etc.)
Bonus features:
- If it can be adapted to be used as a CNC Plasma Cutter as well as a router, that would be pretty awesome.
